PBK:
"Today's posting is "The Mescaline Tracks", produced as a (more-or-less) solo project in 1997. Everyone went crazy for the electronica scene at the time, and I was very interested in such artists as Download, Techno Animal, Autechre, Kid606 and Matmos. I can't deny the influence of rhythmic techno and industrial genres on my music from this time, it's also evident in the companion release titled "Headmix". (which I'll post here later) But this material exemplifies my interest in rhythm not as a driving or central force, but as a sort of moving, fluxing element of the overall instrumental fabric.
Around the same time I also began wondering what the effects of psychedelic experience would be on my composing. I dedicated myself for a while to this idea. There were highs and lows to the process but one of the better results was this recording...
This project was never given a "proper" release although a few copies exist on tape and cdr somewhere, mostly sent to magazines for review, so it is very much one of my "lost" releases and has been heard by only a handful of people. Guests here include Brian Ladd and my cousin, Michael Kowalski(aka Artemis K), on one track each."
REVIEWS: "This signals a new leaf overturned by sound artist PBK, who's sort of known for his noisier & more abstract work. "The Mescaline Tracks" is a more ambient, filmic journey that was apparently highly influenced by, eh, well, you know. Fine work it is, too, with plenty of murky, semi-environmental mists to waft over your head. It's not light by any means, but with sort of a "dark ambient" or "isolationist" bend, with PBK's notable cinematic talents more than in evidence." Godsend Magazine
"PBK once again creates a work that is so far out of the field of 'normal' sound that the music itself is often less describable than the imaginary visions it summons. A far beyond excellent set of mind-stimulating, challenging sounds to let yourself fall deep into."
